What Happened To Archive ("this site," "we," "us") is operated as an independent publication at whathappenedto.space. This page explains what data is collected when you visit or subscribe, how it's used, and what your rights are.


What we collect

If you only visit the site (no account) Standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. This is routine infrastructure data and is not used to identify you personally.

If you subscribe (free or paid) When you sign up, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. If you create an account, we also store a display name if you provide one.

If you become a paid member Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details — Stripe handles all payment data under their own Privacy Policy. We do receive and store a record of your subscription status and billing history.


How we use your data

We use your email address to:

  • Send you posts and newsletters you've subscribed to
  • Send transactional emails (e.g., payment confirmations, password resets)
  • Occasionally send updates about the publication itself

We do not sell your email address or personal data to anyone. We do not share it with third parties except as described below.


Third-party services

This site is hosted on Ghost (Ghost Foundation, an Irish non-profit). Ghost stores subscriber data on our behalf. You can read Ghost's privacy policy at ghost.org/privacy.

Email delivery may be handled by Mailgun or another transactional email provider integrated with Ghost.

Analytics, if used, are privacy-respecting and do not use cookies or track you across other websites.


Cookies

Ghost uses a minimal session cookie to keep you logged in if you have an account. If you don't have an account, no tracking cookies are set by this site.


Your rights

You can:

  • Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email
  • Delete your account by signing into your member portal or by emailing us
  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data

Data retention

If you unsubscribe, your email is removed from active mailing lists. If you request account deletion, your account and associated data are permanently deleted. Anonymized, non-identifying aggregate data (e.g., total subscriber counts) may be retained.


Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, if the changes are significant, notify active subscribers by email.
